Join us for an intimate evening with some of talented individuals! You’re invited to hear from some of our exhibiting artists as we dive into the motivations behind their works on view, the greater sociopolitical conversations surrounding multiculturalism, and everything from the “in-between.” Join the discussion and enjoy our current exhibition before it leaves on March 20!

Meet the Panelists
Hiroshi Clark
Hiroshi Clark is a lens-based artist from Southern California. He received his BFA from Art Center College of Design in 2010. His work is centered around his personal experiences, ranging from his father's wood finishing business, to exploring the Inland Empire, and reflecting on his family histories. Hiroshi is invested in ideas of biraciality as it applies to people who have a parent whose first language is different from their own. Hiroshi's mother is from Japan and he and his twin sister often visited Japan as children. Many of the works featured in Mixed Feelings are centered around his relationship to his mother, and explores his desire for connection and understanding to her history and its' relation to his own.
Amanda Kazemi
Amanda Kazemi is a multi-media artist and illustrator based in San Diego, California. Amanda channels her personal journey and story through her art as a means of healing, reflection, and understanding. Her solo show "Woven Together" was on display in tangent with the 2023 Made in California Juried Exhibition, centered around her Mexican-Iranian ancestry. Amanda uses mainly charcoal, pastels, and graphite to bring to life detailed characters and animals, reminiscent of Aesop's classic illustrated fables.
Eunnuri Lee
Eunnuri Lee is a Korean-American interdisciplinary research artist from Washington D.C. Born in South Korea, Lee was forced to immigrate to the United States after her parents passed - making her identity subsequently fractured from her roots. Her practice often incorporates this feeling of fragmentation and loss then recreates ideas of identity on the canvas. She is often addressing themes of cultural diaspora, ethnic plastic surgery, and Asian-American hybridity. She alternates between personal narrative and social activism while investigating the effects of media, race and intersectionality.
Mary Jo Matsumoto
Mary Jo Matsumoto is a contemporary figurative painter working and living in Southern California. As a third-generation mixed-race woman of Japanese descent living in the US, she often finds herself at the intersection of cultures, navigating the complexities of straddling two worlds. Growing up in the 1970s with the shadow of recent American history ever-present yet rarely acknowledged within her family, her childhood was devoid of any references to her Japanese roots in an attempt to ensure she was better assimilated. Her series "Half-Asian Artifacts," currently on view at the Brea Gallery, engages directly with her history and poetically pays homage to her grandmother, Sei Fujii Matsumoto.
