Street Sweeping
The City of Brea prides itself on being an attractive, well-maintained community. Brea's Street Sweeping program is designed to ensure that the streets are kept safe and clean of debris. Street sweeping is provided twice a month in both residential and commercial areas. The goal of the Street Sweeping program is to maintain the safety and cleanliness of City streets by minimizing the accumulation of debris in roadways and along curbs. Sweeping also significantly reduces pollution.
Street sweeping twice a month is in compliance with the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) best practices criteria. Runoff from sprinklers and other outdoor activities result in debris that migrates into the storm drain system. This can pollute the entire downstream watershed, even to the beaches. The city’s street sweeping equipment uses a technology known as a regenerative air system, which is designed to meet stringent South Coast Air Quality Management District dust control measures.
Depending on location, streets will be swept on either:
- The first and third weeks of the month
- The second and fourth weeks of the month
*Please be advised - street sweeping will retain its regular schedule on rainy days.*

Parking During Sweeping Hours
Sweeping occurs between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in residential tracts. Signs are posted at the entrances into various neighborhoods indicating the day of the week on which sweeping is scheduled.
Street Sweeping Enforcement will begin with warning citations for street sweeping violations starting in September 2025, with a two-month grace period for our residents to become aware and accustomed to renewed enforcement. We will begin issuing citations starting the week of November 3, 2025.
To facilitate effective sweeping, residents must remove their parked vehicles during the street sweeping operation, even those displaying overnight parking permits. By keeping vehicles off the street, you can help Brea streets stay clean and safe.
Street parking in Brea is still prohibited between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Citations will be written for violation of the ordinance. If you meet certain criteria, you may be granted an Overnight Parking Permit.
Cooperation is appreciated in the effort to enhance neighborhood cleanliness. For questions, call (714) 990-7691.
Note: Trash service is provided under a commercial contract through Brea Disposal and is entirely separate from city-operated street sweeping.
