Save the Date for Brea Fest

Brea Fest, the community’s favorite end of summer event, is the “tastiest” celebration of the year! This year, it takes place on Friday, August 8 from 6:30 – 10:00 p.m. at the Brea Civic & Cultural Center. Guests are invited to sample delicious food and beverages donated from local restaurants while listening to live music.

Our Brea Gallery will be open with free admission to view the exhibit Mapping the Landscape: A 50 Dialogue of Art + the Community and our Curtis Theatre will be open to view the dueling piano performance by Black and Whyte.

In lieu of National Night Out, the Brea Police Department will have a larger presence at Brea Fest with four different booths providing drone demonstrations, information on SWAT and much more. Make sure to stop by.

Brea Fest admission and entertainment are free. Tickets that can be used for food and/or beverages are $4 each. Proceeds from the event help support Brea’s Art Programs, such as the Curtis Theatre, Brea Art Gallery, and Concerts in the Park. Don’t miss this family-friendly event that celebrates the arts and our Brea spirit.

Fireworks Prohibited in Brea

While enjoying the holiday weekend with friends and family, please help keep our community safe by adhering to Brea’s ban on fireworks. The sale, use, or discharge of all fireworks are prohibited in the City, even the “safe and sane” variety sold in other cities. Keeping safety in mind and reducing the risk of wildfires, new enforcement will be made more effective by the use of innovative strategies such as the Brea Police Department’s new Drone as First Responder (DFR) program. Fireworks are dangerous and can be harmful to you, your property, and your pets. They are a serious fire hazard as sparks from fireworks can travel to nearby homes or brush and ignite a fire. Help keep our community safe!

If you are able to identify the exact location of someone using fireworks, please report it to Brea Police Department's non-emergency line at 714-990-7911.

Organics Program began July 1

Starting July 1, residents will begin to dispose of all organic waste (food waste and green waste) in the yard waste cart (now referred to as organics cart). These updates to the City’s recycling program are required per Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383). All residents must have trash, recycle, and organics carts.

Friendly cart reminders:

  • Trash materials are disposed in the black/grey colored cart.
  • Recyclable materials are disposed in the dark green OR blue-lid cart.
  • Organic materials (such as yard waste) are disposed in the brown OR green-lid cart.

Please visit cityofbrea.gov/recyclebrea or call (714) 990-7691 for more details.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have the original (current) colored carts, continue to use those as you have been. Those carts will eventually be replaced by the 2036 date.

Celebrating 50 Years of Arts in Public Places

This year, the City of Brea proudly commemorates the 50th anniversary of its Art in Public Places program, celebrating five decades of dedication to public art. Established in 1975, Brea’s Art in Public Places program was one of the first in California to require the integration of public art into new private development projects. The program has brought 195 diverse sculptures through the City and can be located with our online map at cityofbrea.gov/artinpublicplaces.

To celebrate, the Brea Gallery will present an anniversary exhibition this summer Mapping the Landscape: A 50 Dialogue of Art + the Community, highlighting eight selected artists whose work is part of the public art collection. The exhibition will feature original works that offer insight into the creative process behind some of the city’s most iconic public sculptures. This showcase not only honors the artists' contributions but also invites the community to engage more deeply with the legacy and future of public art in Brea.

Opening reception is July 26 at 5:00 p.m. Visit breagallery.com for more details.
