Brea Gallery’s MICA 40th Anniversary

The Brea Gallery proudly celebrates four decades of art in the state of California—a remarkable milestone that reflects not only time, but passion, vision, and community. The 40th Annual Made in California Juried Exhibition is a tribute to the artists, movements, and ideas that have shaped and continue to redefine the cultural landscape of our state.

Our spring exhibition, Made in California, opened on Saturday, April 26. This annual juried exhibition pulls artists from all across the state of California. Made in California awards over $4,000 to artists in all stages of their career and highlights regional creative trends and contemporary movements. This year features over 90 artists in all media, with a concurrent Solo Show by Berkeley artist Amy Yoshitsu: Tiers at Work, an exploration of tangible environment and ideological infrastructure through photography and sculpture.

The exhibition will be open until June 29, 2025. Gallery hours are Wednesday - Sunday from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Sort It Out: This Month’s Recycling Refresh

The Brea City Council recently approved an amended agreement with Republic Services to include the necessary programs for everyone to comply with California Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383). The bill requires reductions of organic waste in landfills as part of a greater plan to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants, such as methane.

As part of the City’s commitment to comply with SB 1383, Brea residents will be able to dispose of food scraps and food soiled paper in their yard waste carts by this summer. Residents will be receiving informational letters and educational materials from Republic Services to stay informed on this updated recycling program.

It is crucial for residents to ensure they have all three carts (trash, recycle, and yard waste/organics) to be in compliance with SB 1383. If you are missing any carts or have a damaged cart, contact Republic Services by calling 714-238-2444 or by email at ocrecycles@republicservices.com.

To stay informed on this and all recycling programs in Brea, please visit  cityofbrea.gov/recyclebrea and follow us on social media. If you have any additional questions, call the City of Brea at 714-990-7691 or email us at recyclebrea@cityofbrea.gov.
