Help Shape the Future of BreaThe City of Brea is excited to embark on the process of preparing a focused update to the City’s General Plan and a new Specific Plan for the Core Area. The General Plan serves as a visioning document for how the City should grow and develop over time. Preparation of a new Specific Plan for the Core Area will help to implement the City’s long-term vision for this unique area of the City by providing specific direction for future developments. As the first step, the City is planning on hosting a community open house on Wednesday, June 5 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to gather the community’s input on their vision for the City. Your input will help make sure that these plans convey the values and priorities of the Brea community. You can subscribe to receive updates on this open house and project updates here.

Brush Clearance Program The City of Brea is within a very high fire hazard severity zone and fire prevention through brush clearance is critical for the health and safety of our community. In May, letters were mailed to properties most affected. All properties must be cleared of weeds, rubbish, refuse, debris and other combustible materials by June 1, and must remain cleared throughout the year. As part of the annual Brush Clearance Program, the Brea Fire Department will begin inspecting properties on June 1 and continue to make inspections multiple times throughout the year. If your property is found to be non-compliant, the City will notify you and assess inspection fees and/or abate the property, as deemed necessary. Should this occur, all costs, including inspection fees and administrative costs, will be the property owner’s responsibility. For questions regarding any aspect of the Brush Clearance Program, please contact the Brea Fire Department at (714) 990-7787.

Carbon Canyon Truck Restriction Enforcement The Brea Police Department and Chino Hills Police Department will begin enforcement of new truck restrictions prohibiting vehicles with more than four axles from traveling through Carbon Canyon Road (SR-142) on Thursday, May 30, following the installation of new traffic signs. This enforcement initiative aims to enhance commuter and traffic safety along Carbon Canyon Road, by restricting the passage of large semi-trucks and other similar vehicles over four axles. Vehicles over four axles are permitted in cases where their presence is necessary for residents who reside in Carbon Canyon and their visitors with a destination in the canyon, for the provision of goods or services to Carbon Canyon residents, or when directly related to City business. Violators will be subject to fines enforced by the Chino Hills Police Department on the San Bernardino County side and by the Brea Police Department on the Orange County side of the canyon. For questions regarding the new truck restrictions along Carbon Canyon Road, please contact the Brea Police Department at (714) 990-7625.

Fireworks are Illegal in Brea With the 4th of July holiday approaching, we want to remind you of the City of Brea’s ban on fireworks. The sale, use, or discharge of all fireworks are prohibited in the City, even the “safe and sane” variety sold in other cities. Violators face up to a $1,000 fine. Fireworks are dangerous and can be harmful to you, your property, and your pets. They are a serious fire hazard as sparks from fireworks can travel to nearby homes or brush and ignite a fire. Help keep our community safe! If you are able to identify the exact location of someone using fireworks, please report it to Brea Police Department non-emergency line at (714) 990-7911.
