The City of Brea is proud to announce the completion of the Brea Blvd Street Improvement project from Imperial Hwy to south city limits. The project included new ADA access ramps, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, asphalt repairs, slurry sealing, and traffic striping. With the new striping we have introduced new “sharrow” bike markings. Sharrows, or shared lane markings, have been strategically placed within the right lane to serve as a visual cue to bicyclists where they should ride and to motorists to watch for the presence of bicyclists. These new sharrows do not restrict vehicular access within the designated lane, instead they emphasize the importance of accommodating both cyclists and motorists along the roadway. While cyclists are encouraged to use the designated lane, motorists may also occupy the same lane, thus ensuring the efficient flow of traffic. By providing clear guidance to bicyclists and awareness to motorists, we aim to foster a safer environment for all road users and encourage greater use of active transportation alternatives.
