[ARCHIVED] SR 57 Freeway/Lambert Interchange Update; Night Work Begin August 28

August 26, 2019 Update

Caltrans has just notified the City that their contractor was able to secure his materials earlier than anticipated and is ready to begin work this week, rather than the anticipated start date of October 15. The initial work will be done at night between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Please drive carefully and plan on using alternate routes.  Please carefully and follow all signs and detours posted by Caltrans.  Keep informed by following Caltrans website and social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

The following is information from Caltrans regarding the tentative schedule and planned work.*

Wednesday, August 28 and Thursday, August 29 (10 p.m.-5 a.m.) Closures
--Pavement work will be performed on the SR 57 Freeway Southbound Off-ramp and the Northbound On-ramp on Lambert Road.
--Closures are planned in order for the work to occur safely and efficiently.

CLOSURES
Wednesday (08/28/2019) night from (10 p.m.-5 a.m.)
--SB-57 lanes # 4, 5 from Toner Canyon / Brea Canyon to Imperial Hwy / SR-90.
--SB-57 Lambert Off-ramp.
--NB-57 Lambert On-ramp.

Thursday (8/29/19) night from (10 p.m.-5 a.m.)
--SB-57 lanes # 4, 5 from Toner Canyon / Brea Canyon to Imperial Hwy / SR-90.
--SB-57 Lambert Off-ramp.
-- NB-57 Lambert On-ramp.

Tuesday night 9/3/19 and Wednesday night 9/4/19
--Striping and installation of K-Rails (Cement barriers) on the SR 57 Freeway Northbound On-ramp/Off-ramp on Lambert Road.
--Closures planned. We will update with specific closures when the information is received from the Caltrans.

--Thursday night 9/5/19 and Friday night 9/6/19
--Striping and installation of K-Rails (Cement barriers) on SR 57 Freeway Southbound Off-ramp/On-ramp on Lambert.
 --Closures planned. We will update with specific closures when the information is received from the Caltrans.

 *Please note that in order to safely handle any unforeseen issues and to keep the project on track, it may be necessary to modify the schedule or the work plan.  We will make every effort to update the information as soon as it’s received. 

Project Information

The new Interchange will add capacity and relieve current and future congestion. View the community meeting  PowerPoint Presentation.  Caltrans is the lead agency and is responsible for all aspects of construction management throughout the project, including traffic control and primary public communication.  City staff will meet with Caltrans regularly to get construction updates and will work with the agency on ways to minimize construction disruption and share their public information updates.

The $98 million project is scheduled for completion by December 2021.  Improvements include providing additional capacity, better traffic flow, enhanced safety, reduced congestion and delays. Additionally, the project will enable the future construction of the Northbound Truck Climbing Lane, between Lambert Road and the Orange County and Los Angeles County line. Brea was awarded approximately $75 million from State and Federal funds. The City has also committed about $12 million for the project from its local mitigation funds, and was awarded over $12 million from OCTA Measure M 2 funds, now known as “OC Go” Funds, for property acquisition and construction. All in, approximately 88% of the project funding comes from grants.  City staff will work with Caltrans to minimize construction disruption, manage traffic and support ongoing communication throughout the project.   Keep informed by following Caltrans website and social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  Additionally, follow the City of Brea official news sources for updates. of new Caltrans information.
