featuring Reed van Brunschot, Alison Chen, and Yulia Gasio

Our Fresh(AIR): Artist in Residence weekend returns Saturday February 22 through Sunday February 23, 2025 with three of our exhibiting Bitter/Sweet artists! Every exhibition, the Brea Gallery aims to highlight some of our artists by hosting a weekend residency. For two days, artists will be in the gallery creating new work, answering questions, and revealing their process. This exhibition's installment has a line-up of goodies for you to enjoy, so don't miss out!

About our Fresh(AIR) Artists:

Reed van Brunschot
Reed van Brunschot is a Peruvian/Dutch/American Visual Artist & Educator, working with sculpture, performance, installations, and video art. She received her MFA from the University of Southern California's Roski School of Art and Design in 2019 and her BFA from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie voor het Kunst in Amsterdam in 2011. She has had exhibitions internationally and is currently based in Los Angeles. Her artworks take on displacement, daily life through the ‘transitional moment’, one in which a given situation suddenly and unexpectedly changes, be it in form or in sentiment. By building relationships between unexpected elements, through materialization, or correlation to the viewer, there is an emphasis on a dialog between the human, and the absurd object. Speaking in quotidian symbolism, her practice is based on themes of childhood, home life and all things ephemeral.

Alison Chen
Alison Chen (she/her b. 1986, New York City) is a visual artist working in photography, video, performance, and photography. Her work addresses the complexities and confusions that surround our most intimate relationships, and the areas where our preconceived notions fall short. She received her M.F.A. from Parsons School of Design and her B.F.A from Cornell University. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at spaces including the Torrance Art Museum (Torrance, CA), Collarworks (Troy, NY), the CUE Art Foundation (New York, NY), and Standard Space (Sharon, CT). Her practice has been recognized by fellowships and residencies at the Wassaic Project and Kala Art Institute and she has had the honor to study under the direction of Magnum photographer, Antoine D’Agata . Her work has also been featured in the Society for Photographic Education Film Festival, the Beijing Design Festival, the Pingyao International Photography Festival, and the Dali International Photo Festival. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.

Yulia Gasio
Yulia Gasio is a Ukrainian born artist who lives and practices art in California. Her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions regionally and nationally, and are in private and public collections that include Ukraine Institute of Modern Art in Chicago, Museum of the Ukrainian Diaspora in Kyiv, Ukraine Cultural Center Los Angeles, Osten Collection Skopje, North Macedonia, and Creative Spark Centre, Dundalk, Ireland. She earned MA in Art History from California State University Fresno and MFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University Long Beach and also a recipient of multiple awards and scholarships. Yulia is an Assistant Professor teaching Drawing and Painting at California State University Long Beach.
