Brea proudly announces the hiring of Tracy Steinkruger as the City’s Community Development Director. Steinkruger will join the City’s Executive Team on Monday, March 2, 2020 filling a vacancy due to a retirement.
Steinkruger brings nearly 15 years of urban planning and public policy experience to Brea. She most recently held the position of Planning Manager for the City of San Gabriel, and has also worked for the cities of Pasadena and Burbank. During her time at the City of Burbank, Steinkruger served as project manager for the Burbank2035 General Plan, the city’s first comprehensive update to their General Plan since the mid-1960s. Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, Steinkruger started her career in public service at the age of 14 working for the City of Lincoln in the Parks and Recreation Department, and then later in the Public Works & Utilities Department. Steinkruger earned both an undergraduate degree in Natural Resources and a master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Nebraska. She is currently a member of the American Planning Association and the Urban Land Institute.
As Community Development Director, Steinkruger will lead a department that oversees Brea’s long-range and regional planning; issues building and planning permits; performs building inspections; tracks development fees; preserves property standards; implements affordable housing programs; conducts code enforcement; provides business development services; and manages the City’s real estate. “I am excited to have Tracy join our Brea team,” said Brea City Manager Bill Gallardo. “Her history of being innovative and collaborative corresponds with Brea’s organizational culture and the community.”
