August 26, 2019 Update
Caltrans has confirmed approval of a request from its contractor to start construction on the project earlier than the anticipated start date of October 15. The initial work will be done at night between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Please drive carefully and plan on using alternate routes. Please carefully follow all signs and detours posted by Caltrans. CLOSURES
Tuesday night 9/3/19
- EB Lambert Rd lanes #1 & #2 from State College to Associate Rd.
- WB Lambert Rd lanes #1 & #2 from Associate Rd to State College.
- NB-57 from Imperial Hwy/SR-90 to Tonner Canyon Rd/Brea Canyon. Alternate lane closure, minimum 2 lanes will be open at all time.
- SB-57 from Tonner Canyon Rd/Brea Canyon to Imperial Hwy/SR-90. Alternate lane closure, minimum 2 lanes will be open at all time.

Project Information
The new Interchange will add capacity and relieve current and future congestion. View the community meeting PowerPoint Presentation. Caltrans is the lead agency and is responsible for all aspects of construction management throughout the project, including traffic control and primary public communication. City staff will meet with Caltrans regularly to get construction updates and will work with the agency on ways to minimize construction disruption and share their public information updates.
The $98 million project is scheduled for completion by December 2021. Improvements include providing additional capacity, better traffic flow, enhanced safety, reduced congestion and delays. Additionally, the project will enable the future construction of the Northbound Truck Climbing Lane, between Lambert Road and the Orange County and Los Angeles County line. Brea was awarded approximately $75 million from State and Federal funds. The City has also committed about $12 million for the project from its local mitigation funds, and was awarded over $12 million from OCTA Measure M 2 funds, now known as “OC Go” Funds, for property acquisition and construction. All in, approximately 88% of the project funding comes from grants. City staff will work with Caltrans to minimize construction disruption, manage traffic and support ongoing communication throughout the project.
