[ARCHIVED] Brea's City Council Represent Brea's Interests on Committees and Commissions

Brea City Council Members represent Brea on a number of committees and commissions locally and regionally, as well as the state and national level. Council Members understand the importance of different levels of government working together collaboratively to ensure that residents’ interests are considered and addressed. Such participation allows for consistent and representative communication so that government agencies can better align their policies to the interests of its constituents.

Like other local cities, Brea City Council Members volunteer their time for appointments on committees such as: Southern California Associations of Governments (SCAG), which focuses on long-range regional transportation issues, housing needs and South Coast Air Quality plans; the Orange County Vector Control District, a group that works to protect the public from insect and animal borne diseases and Orange County Sanitation District that concentrates on protecting public health and the environment.

Appointments occur at various times throughout the year. Most recently, Council Member Glenn Parker was appointed to serve on the League of California Cities’ Governance, Transparency and Labor Relations Policy Committee. This committee makes recommendations to the League board of directors on state issues involving transparency, technology, healthcare, elections, political reform, pension, workers’ compensation reform, as well as other labor related issues. Additionally, Council Member Steve Vargas was recently appointed to serve on the League of California Cities’ Transportation, Communications, and Public Works Policy Committee.  This committee reviews both state and federal legislation and regulations as it relates to issues of transportation planning, technology, funding, construction, public works, telecommunications, and other related areas.
