As a result of a traffic study evaluating the cut through traffic on Cliffwood Drive, a number of improvements will be made to the area in order to alleviate the traffic problems. Over the last few years, residents have voiced concerns regarding excessive speeds and cut through traffic in the neighborhood. In response, city staff prepared a traffic study to address traffic issues on Cliffwood Drive and in the neighboring area. The study resulted in various findings and recommended improvements. Subsequent community meetings and input supported the need for the following improvements:
INTERSECTION OF LAMBERT AND CASHEW
*A temporary painted island with delineators will be installed at this intersection to limit traffic movements to right-turn in and right-turn out only.
INTERSECTION OF STATE COLLEGE AND CLIFFWOOD
*A temporary painted island and delineators will be installed at the center of State College Boulevard and Cliffwood intersection, and a painted island on Cliffwood Avenue.
*Allow right-turn in and right-turn out only movements for northbound traffic from Cliffwood Avenue onto State College Boulevard.
*Eliminating the northbound and southbound through movements from Cliffwood Avenue. Eliminating westbound left-turn from State College Boulevard to Cliffwood Avenue.
The improvements are scheduled to begin the week of January 28, 2019, weather permitting. After implementation, the Brea Police Department will monitor traffic circulation and take enforcement actions as necessary. Staff will monitor the traffic and effectiveness of the barriers and restrictions for a period of 6 to 9 months and evaluate whether any modifications are necessary..
