[ARCHIVED] Brea’s Street Sweeping Parking Enforcement Suspended

The Brea City Council has suspended parking enforcement for Brea’s Street Sweeping Program for an approximately one-year evaluation period effective immediately.  Drivers will no longer be cited for parking on the streets during Street Sweeper Operation.  However, residents are still encouraged to park vehicles off the streets on designated sweeping days to enable proper and thorough street cleaning. Residents do not have to apply for a street parking exemption for street sweeping operations since enforcement is suspended.

The goal of the Street Sweeping program is to maintain the safety and cleanliness of the streets throughout our community, which is an important hallmark of a well-maintained City.  By keeping vehicles off the street voluntarily, you can help Brea streets stay clean and safe and protect our beaches from debris pollution.

In addition, properly cleaned and maintained streets help the City comply with mandates from the Environmental Protection Agency.  Cities are required to monitor and reduce pollutants dispersed into the sewers, which lead to beaches and waterways.  The NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit program, created in 1972 by the Clean Water Act (CWA), addresses water pollution by regulating point sources (such as city streets/sewers) that discharge pollutants into the waterways. Failure to comply with the program puts the city at risk of being fined.

[Please note: the suspension of Street Sweeping Parking Enforcement has NO effect on the City’s Overnight Parking Ordinance.  Parking in Brea is still prohibited between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Citations will be written for violation of the ordinance.  If certain criteria is met, you may be granted an Overnight Parking Permit.
